Most couples are often puzzled on deciding when is the right time to order and send out their wedding stationery. These items include your save the date cards, wedding invitations and thank you cards. I have included a wedding stationery timeline to help guide you through the process for when to order and mail your wedding stationery.
SAVE THE DATE CARDS
So the question has been popped and you said yes and the first big decision is when and where. Once you have set your wedding date and venue you can begin working on your save the date cards. It is recommended to order your save the date cards 7-8 months before your wedding. You will need to begin putting together your mailing list and address your envelopes (I do offer addressing services to help assist in the process). Save the dates should be sent out 6-7 months before your wedding date. Destination weddings should be sent out 9-12 months prior to the wedding to allow guests time to plan their accommodations and travel arrangements.
Your wedding invitation is the first look into your wedding. It’s important to take the time to to find the perfect wedding invitation and if you are planning on a custom invitation design this process requires additional time. If you will be ordering custom design invitations the design process should begin 6-7 months out. Once you have all the important details including the time, venue, and reception information, you can order your wedding invitations. Your wedding invitations should be ordered 3-4 months in advance to allow time for assembly and addressing (I do offer assembly and addressing services to help assist in the process). Your wedding invitations should be mailed out 2 months prior to your wedding to allow adequate time for response cards to be returned.

Address envelopes and include return address.
Assemble all of your wedding invitation components (invitation, reception card, rsvp card and return envelope with pre-postage, enclosure card) and place them into addressed envelopes.
2 months before wedding
Purchase postage stamps (have postal service weigh a complete assembled invitation to confirm postage amount)
Add stamps to invitations and mail them from the post office (mail all invitations together from one location)
Ask your local post office to hand cancel your wedding invitations. Hand canceling prevents the envelopes from being placed in the automatic sorters and look much prettier. I always tell my clients to bring in a little treat for the staff to make it harder for them to say no.
Wedding Thank You Cards
Please DO NOT forget the thank you card! It is important to show your appreciation to those who could and could not make your special day. Trust me, if you "forget" or chose not to send out thank you cards your guests will remember that last detail from your event. Saying thank you to your wedding guests, friends and family, bridal party, and even those special wedding professionals who made your day an important day. Your hand-written thank you notes should be sent within one month following your wedding. Take the time to send thank you notes along the way as gift are received from guests unable to attend. Helpful tip - Use your wedding guest list to record gifts received.
